Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Policy

Who we are & what we do: enabling access & providing opportunities

Ardán is a source of information, advice, schemes, and funding for those aspiring to or already working in the audiovisual industry, whether that be in film, TV, games or animation. We act as a platform for talent to access the opportunities they need, to find each other, to create work, and get that work seen.

Why equality, diversity & inclusion is important to us at Ardán

As a platform for creative talent in the film, TV, games and animation space, Ardán aims to support and promote the inclusion of these voices and cultures in the audiovisual industry in the West of Ireland. As a support provider for creatives who tell stories through audiovisual mediums, Ardán understands that storytelling is only as successful as the broadest perspectives and experiences that it encompasses.

Ireland is a much more diverse country, both ethnically and culturally, than it was when Ardán (as was Galway Film Centre) began its work as a film resource centre over 30 years ago. This change is to be celebrated as we broaden our perspectives and learn from the new voices that now represent us. As such, we at Ardán, want to be a support network for everyone, irrespective of their age, ethnicity, culture, gender identity, religion, language, sexual orientation, ability, disability or social circumstances.

How we strive to implement equality, diversity, and inclusivity

Equality, diversity, and inclusion are values that are at the core of our work at Ardán, and we endeavour to incorporate those values at every level; within our own team, with the service providers that we contract in, and, even more importantly, for the recipients of the supports that our team provides.

To this end, we will:

  • endeavour to represent and reflect diverse voices and talent within our own team
  • provide creative development opportunities that support diverse voices and talent
  • engage in conversations with the talent we support to ensure we meet their needs
  • lower barriers for entry where possible by making processes as inclusive as we can
  • continue to educate ourselves on best practices in equality, diversity, and inclusivity

The importance of shared and individual responsibility in implementation

Our team understands that an equality, diversion and inclusion policy is both a shared and an individual responsibility. As managers of UNESCO Galway City of Film, WRAP Fund, FÍS Summit, and National Talent Academy for Film & Television, this policy applies across all the initiatives and schemes we support.

Please note: this policy, and our efforts to implement it, is a work in progress. The Ardán team will continue to monitor the success of this policy and review our progress regularly. Please provide feedback to info@ardan.ie
