The Little Cinema & Galway City of Film 48 Hour Challenge is an annual filmmaking competition which began in 2017, ran by Ardán in collaboration with the Little Cinema Galway and challenges 10 teams to make a 5 minute film in just 48 hours within Galway City and County.
It’s a Challenge designed to test the participants to their limits, setting them the challenge of conceiving, writing, shooting and editing a 5 minute film which includes an assigned Prop, a Line, a Genre and a Shot type in just 48 hours.
The Challenge takes place over a weekend from Thursday to Sunday, with teams competing for the top prize of €500 for Best Film, as well as awards for other categories as decided by a panel of industry professionals.
To ensure the films are not pre-written ahead of the Challenge, the judges are instructed to take into consideration and heavily weight the way in which the Prop, Line, Genre and Shot type were incorporated when deciding the top prize.
The next Little Cinema & Galway City of Film 48 Hour Challenge will take place on 22nd – 25th August 2024. Applications will open on 29th July and close on 16th August.
A networking night will be held in the Portershed a Dó on Thursday 18th July ahead of the applications opening. It is a chance for people interested in taking part to form a team or join a team ahead of the Challenge.
